چکیده

Excessive, wasted water has prompted the creation of the Top 10 Water Challenges of Nebraska [1]. 70% of the world’s water usage is related to agriculture [7], more efficient irrigation solutions promise a large benefit for farmers, consumers and the environment. Through a USGS grant, the Cyber-Physical Networking Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has pledged to complete an autonomous irrigation system to improve the efficiency of center pivot irrigation. As part of this project, an interface between the center pivot controller and the sensors was created. An above ground receiver was integrated with a center pivot controller and controlled by data from the field. Hence a wireless sensor network (WSN) can be used to aid precision agriculture. The remainder of this report will cover the equipment and process needed to create a communication link between sensor motes in the soil and a center pivot irrigation system. First, the background of precession irrigation will be discussed. Next, the implementation details will be presented with the demonstration setup following. An experiment was done before the final demonstration to assess the quality of communication while burial depth and antenna choice were varied. The results of the final demonstration are presented followed by a conclusion of the work presented. An appendix includes pictures from the final demonstration.

Investigation of infiltration in Center Pivot irrigation system

Use of the double ring infiltrometer to measure soil water infiltration in center pivot irrigation systems isn’t an accurate approach because the real conditions of infiltration under center pivot sprinklers is different from what happens in the double ring. In this study the infiltration parameters were evaluated in real conditions of a center pivot system. For this purpose a single ring...

Effect of the Start-stop Cycle of Center-pivot

27 28 The simulation of center-pivot performance has been the subject of research 29 efforts since the 1960s. Center-pivot models frequently use empirical equations 30 relating pressure and sprinkler radial application pattern. Individual, stationary 31 water application patterns are overlapped and the resulting water application is 32 mapped in the field. Such models use constant tower angular...

The Nebraska Center-Pivot Inventory: An Example of Operational Satellite Remote Sensing on a Long-Term Basis

The objective of this paper is to summarize the history, procedures, and results of a long-term program of inventorying center-pivot irrigation systems in Nebraska. Data concerning the location of pivots have been collected each year from 1972 to the present, and summarized annually as a map publication. Inventory procedures are simplistic, consisting of identifying and mapping occurrences of t...

Control of Meloidogyne spp. on Russet Burbank Potato by Applying Metham Sodium through Center Pivot Irrigation Systems.

Metham sodium applied in October through center pivot irrigation systems was evaluated for control of Meloidogyne hapla at 374, 468, and 701 liters/ha and for control of M. chitwoodi at 468 liters/ha on potato. Metham sodium at the high rates effectively controlled M. hapla. No females were detected in the tubers at the high rates of nematicide application, whereas a mean of 19 and 69% of the t...
